about

A Black and Brown intersection of the Westside and Southside of Chicago, Ale and Sol meet up for one day, and create. Brought to you by the Da Projects Collective, both artist strive to create a space of humor, satire, dance, and nostalgia. The five track EP interprets the self participation in pop culture as honestly as possible, simultaneously diffusing the EP’s own ego in the process. Ale and Sol have been long term collaborators coming from Bronzeville and Humboldt Park, neighborhoods both facing rapid gentrification in the City of Chicago. The glamorization presented to the public creates an outside fetishization of these black and brown neighborhoods. This fetishization of geographical and cultural intersections blanket and suffocate existing art, music, and movement among the marginalized of Chicago. These are constant shifts dictated by the powers that be. It is within this systemic friction that Ale and Sol consciously and unconsciously engage in, that A Day Off is born. Inseparable from the reality of work or free labor that is to come, offering no true vacations.
